While at The Salvation Army one of my goals was to increase general awareness of the organization as well as specific awareness around the programs and services offered to the community. I worked to build relationships with local media outlets and establish the organization as a subject matter expert on the needs of the less fortunate. Those proactive relationships came into play with Janet Kim, a reporter at Newschannel 5, reached out to me to have The Salvation Army represented in a story she was working on to address the drop in donations nonprofits were facing during the 2013 holiday season. I took this opportunity to place the Commanding Officer, Major Ed Lee, front and center.
